Does this represent a character trait differing between genders?

Difference Between Thoughts |
The answer to the first question of the interview conducted with my mother (How do you choose what you are going to where in the morning?), got me thinking more than I ever could imagine. Thank you mom! I also realized a very key thing when thinking about the differences between male and female attire...
Women have a name for Every Single subsection/article of clothing, whereas men say "Polo" for any collared shirt or pants/shorts, that's it. Does this mean that men are more simple than women? Or that we (males) do not typically care about stupid things (ex: clothing)? Or that women are over the top drama queens as a species (yes, they are their own species)? To be honest, I really do not know they answer to any of these questions.

Man vs. Woman |
Who would have thought that I'd ever be interested in why my mom wheres what she wears each day? Not me. But I am proud to say that this interview has led me to some rad observations that I cannot wait to keep expanding on.
All your posts make me smile! I never noticed that the girls at school are usually dressed more comfortable while the guys are more formal. I never really saw the guy's dress code as more formal either! I think that girls have more options when it comes to clothing, but I am not sure why? Both guys and girls can make a statement with their clothing! Whenever I get dressed, the two questions in my head are what is the most comfortable and did I wear this recently? It is such a fashion no-no to wear the same thing twice but I definitely do. I own a lot of clothes but I have learned to make them look different with different shoes, tops, pants, etc. With the guys, it seems as if yall can just have a different polo for each day of the week and be done! It was a lot easier to get dressed in the morning when we wore uniforms, as much as I hated them. Great post Jake!
ReplyDeleteWoah! This blog was so rad, dude! Your excellent diction and phrasing/humor at points in this here blog post effectively convey your thoughts about fashion between the genders. Also, you point out what many of us did not notice while reading your previous blog posts. We choose our clothes for comfort purposes! Well, not all of us do, as you mentioned the "formality" of men's dress. Everyday, we see what other people wear, and wonder, "Why are they wearing that?" It's comfortable! I don't want to stay at a place for 7 hours wearing a collared shirt/polo and long pants with a belt all day. It'll get extremely uncomfortable. And also, because we see each other every single day of the week, we fail to observe the simple patterns each person chooses. For example, you mentioned that you didn't notice your mom swapping between the same five or so accessories. Good job, Jake, good job.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! I've noticed how the girls at school normally dress more comfortably than the guys (myself included), but I never really thought about it that much. So interesting to think about why a girl says they "need" more clothes, when in reality its all want and we could get by with the same amount of clothes that guys wear, seems like it's something in our subconscious about self image. Great job on this!
ReplyDeleteI don't neccesarily think it's a gender trait that girls dress more comfortably than guys at school; I think it's just easier for us to get away with. We can easily wear jeans and a tshirt but if y'all wear a tshirt a teacher will automatically notice you don't have a collared shirt on. I love the tone of your blog though, very entertaining and attention grabbing. The questions you ask towards your audience are also very thought provoking!
ReplyDeleteRight now before writing this comment (and I guess now too..) I have been thinking should I be lazy and wear a sweatshirt tomorrow or try. I've been trying to wear normal clothes, meaning not a baggy jacket, everyday so I will feel less sloth-like in class. It's been working! Girls are expected more of. Like dances, I would love to pick out something easy that is like everyday wear and be ready. But no, girls are more complicated. But maybe it is because our brains are just different. I read today females are better at multi-tasking and men focus. Hey, that could relate to this!! I wish I heard more about what your mom had said! Funny about the need stuff because my mom gets mad at me when I wear tshirts.. saying "why? why do you buy so many clothes if that's what you're going to wear." Also my brother loves clothes and shopping, but he just online shops. I loved the visuals. This was interesting as usual!
ReplyDeleteJake I have noticed how at school like you said girls are starting to wear t shirts and yoga pants while guys have to wear polo's with collars that are tucked in. I really enjoyed your enthusiasm about your topic.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the comparison between guys and girls of wearing more comfortable clothes at school I really think is up to the dress code. The girls seem to get away with wearing almost anything they want (so they wear comfortable things) whereas guys cant even wear a hoodie without it having a collared shirt under it. Your post was really interesting though because I know I'd rather wear something Im more comfortable in. If I was allowed to wear sweatpants and a hoodie every day, I would
